The Friends of Hart Park have partnered with Prayer Angels for the Military and several SCV Veteran organizations to host the 2012 SCV Armed Forces Day Festival at Hart Park in Newhall. A day of fun, food and music! Come meet and support our military members, veterans and veteran’s organizations. There’s plenty of activities including: special guest speakers, live music, barbeque, inflatable obstacle course, jumper, trackless train, camouflage face painting, JROTC performance, young Marine obstacle course, chip shot contest, raffle prizes, Army humvee, Marine humvee, Marine LAV, Marine K-9, rock climbing wall, Nat’l Guard ambulance, Marine chin up contest and much, much more!

Air Show at Point Mugu

The NBVC Air Show at Point Mugu will be held at Point Mugu, Saturday Sept. 28 -Sunday, Sept. 29, 2013. The Air Show will feature the U.S. Navy Flight Demonstration Squadron the Blue Angels.
Ventura County, Calif., Jan. 3, 2012… The 44rd Naval Base Ventura County (NBVC) Air Show at Point Mugu is scheduled Saturday Sept. 28 and Sunday, Sept. 29, 2013. The gates will open at 8 a.m. Admission and parking is free.
The 2013 Naval Base Ventura County Air Show at Point Mugu will feature the U.S. Navy Flight Demonstration Squadron, the Blue Angels. The Blue Angels operate the Boeing FA-18C Hornet strike/fighter aircraft.
“I am very excited to announce the Blue Angels will be returning back to Naval Base Ventura County for the first time in eight years,” said Capt. James McHugh, Commanding Officer, Naval Base Ventura County. “The Blue Angels will headline the 2013 Naval Base Ventura County Air Show at Point Mugu. The Blue Angel aerial maneuvers will exhibit the professional qualities of the Navy personnel, who fly, maintain and support the aircraft.” He added.
The Blue Angels were authorized for establishment by the Chief of Naval Operations, Admiral Chester W. Nimitz ordered the creation of the team on April 24, 1946. The Blue Angels flew at the first air show at Point Mugu known then as the Space Fair in 1960 operating the F11F-1 Tiger. The Blue Angels are home based at NAS Pensacola, FL.
More detailed air show information will be released as more military flight demonstrations are confirmed.
No air show at NBVC Point Mugu will be held in 2012.

Family Comedy Night to Benefit SCV Habitat for Heroes

If you are looking for something different and fun to do with your family this spring, mark your calendars for May 18. A professional troupe of clean comedians called the Standup Guys will do a clean comedy show benefit atRealLifeChurch, and the proceeds will be used to further the work of SCV Habitat for Heroes in the valley.
Habitat for Heroes is a special program of Habitat for Humanity,San Fernandoand Santa Clarita Valleys. The program is designed to help meet the affordable housing needs of Santa Clarita vets, and seeks eventually to build a self-contained neighborhood of homes for the valley’s local heroes.
The event will showcase the comedic talents of Robert G. Lee, Kenn Kington and Bob Smiley – the Standup Guys. It is being presented by Providence Health and Service, Southern California; and is co-sponsored by SoCalGas, KHTS andRealLifeChurch.
“The proceeds will be used to benefit our local veterans,” said Mike Mizrahi of SoCalGas and Jeri-Seratti Goldman, co-owner of KHTS radio, co-chairs of the comedy night. “Specifically, the funds will help to facilitate critical repairs needed at the American Legion Hall,” at24527 Spruce St., in Newhall, he added.
The American Legion Post 507, a place of community for the Santa Clarita veteran population, is over 50 years old and in dire need of repairs, Seratti-Goldman points out. As a result, the Post is having difficulty booking events, such as weddings and organizational meetings, which in the past has generated much needed funds to keep the facility updated and safe.
“So, in addition to treating yourself and your family and friends to a great night of family entertainment – these guys are really funny – you can do something really worthwhile for your community,” Mizrahi said. “You can give our veterans in Santa Clarita a place to congregate, network and grow their community so that they can continue rebuilding their civilian life after serving our country.”
The Standup Guys concert is the easiest way to help our local veterans. Laugh, enjoy and serve those who have served us. The show will start at 8pm, and there will be a VIP party in the Church Coffee shop afterwards for those who purchase VIP tickets or sponsorship packages. Santa Clarita Historical Society Fundraiser

The show is a fundraiser for the Santa Clarita Historical Society. Proceeds will go toward the completion of our museum and library. We have hundreds of children going through the old Saugus Train Depot every year where they learn about local history and the new museum will enhance the learning process.
The show is a tribute to the late, great Patsy Cline and stars Marie Wise-Hawkins and the Bodacious Bobcats. I decided to feature this young lady and her band this year because I caught them on stage twice last year and was amazed at the great job they did with Patsy’s songs.
Tickets are $35 per person which includes the show and a BBQ dinner prepared by the Elk’s Lodge #2379. Beer and wine will be available. Tickets can be purchased on-line at cowboyfestival.org or through me at duane@scvhistory.com . The show is Saturday, April 21. Doors open at 4:30, dinner at 5 and the show starts at 6. The location is at Wm S Hart Park in Newhall, just minutes from the San Fernando Valley and everyone is invited. We have sold half of the 200 tickets available and I’d like to sell out before the show so I know how much food to order.
